282 D of E to Wales

On the 21st July 2005, 282 Squadron went on their annual Duke of Edinburgh Expedition to Sennybridge in South Wales. Joining the squadron this year were also 291 (Westminster) Squadron, 338 (West Ham) Squadron and 2324 (Chigwell) Squadron.

There were two Gold practice expeditions, one silver qualifying expedition and four bronze practice expeditions taking place.

All teams passed even though there was some bad weather at times. We had the familiarisation exercise on the Saturday, which went extremely well for all teams. The walk ended at an ice-cream shop, and tradition states that the CO of the trip buys all the cadets and staff an ice-cream, all 50 of us!

When the expeditions were over, it was time to have fun. On Wednesday, we all went indoor rock climbing and had a go at the challenging walls on offer. Even Corporal Jurado (f) managed to get to the top of the highest wall in the centre which some male cadets refused to do.

On Thursday, we all went to Laser Quest in Swansea. Not surprisingly, the cadets decided to team up and compete against the staff. The cadets did seem to win all rounds, but maybe that was because they decided to turn their target vest inside out…How unfair was that! The staff were bound to loose in this case.

In the afternoon, everybody went shopping in Swansea town centre. Strangely, the cadets went straight to McDonald’s for a healthy well earned meal.

On Thursday night, we had our traditional ceremony of the ‘Plastic plate’ awards.

Wales was over on the Friday and many cadets were sad to go home. It was great fun had by all. We all look forward to next years Wales.

Finally, well done to all for taking part and completing their expedition.

We look forward to all seeing each other again at the 282 squadron BBQ on Friday 5th August. We all have many stories to tell!

 Well done everyone!
