Several cadets embarked on their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Expedition training in the Essex countryside.
For some cadets, it was their first time out of London and to see the lush green countryside was a whole new experience.
Starting at Weald Country park, the cadets navigated to various checkpoints, guided by both Sgt Booty and Civilian Instructor Tina Stokes. The cadets learnt quick and demonstrated basic navigation skills using a map and compass.
Ending back at the park for an overnight camp, the cadets learnt basic campcraft before tucking in for the night.
The next day, the cadets were allowed to navigate from checkpoint to checkpoint on their own as they demonstrated the required skills the day before.
"The cadets learnt very quick. Excellent navigation skills comes with experience. Taking in the weather changes, emergency plans and team capabilites all add to the experience of the expedition and its amazing how much you learn from this simple skill". Said Civilian Instructor Stokes.
The next stage for the cadets is to undertake their Practice walk followed by a qualifying expedition.
The Squadron later plans to go to the Lake District to run a Silver and Gold practice and qalifying expedition.
