Three cadets from 282 Squadron have recently completed their BTEC in Public Services and all achieved Distinctions! This qualification is equivelant to four G.C.S.E.s Grade A*.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Eoin Flynn and Sergeants Martin McDermott and Simon worked hard over the past year to achieve this qualification provided by CVQO (Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation). Activities included First Aid tests, Adventure Training, Duke of Edinburgh Sports and Expeditions, Leadership exercises. Sgt McDermott even managed to do an extra unit and achieve his RYA level 2 through attending a weeks long sailing trip round the UK!

"Much of the activities you do in the Air Cadets count towards your grading. I was very much looking forward to getting this BTEC, myself and my family are proud of me. I have just recently got my BTEC in Aviation Studies which is another two G.C.S.E.s; so including school, i have achieved 18 G.C.S.E.s in total" As said by Cadet Sergeant Andrew Simon.

Three more cadets have also just completed their Gliding Scholarships. They have learnt to fly a Glider before they have even learnt to drive! From the age of 16, cadets are given the chance to go solo in a glider and achieve their wings.

Not only can cadets work on gaining extra qualifications in the Air Cadets, but also staff can work towards them too. There are many chances for staff to attend courses and gain qualifications equivelant to A-Levels and Degrees, and also have much fun in the process!
