A wet and windy Bank holiday weekend didnt stop several cadets from 282 Squadron undertaking their Bronze and Silver expeditions. Beginning on the outskirts of the National Park the cadets walked roughly 20kms each day of their 2/3 day expedition, trekking the South Downs Way.

Planning for the expedition occurs a few weeks beofre the expedition is due to start. All routes are planned and submitted to the operating authority. Menu's are planned and expedition kit is checked and packed. The whole process is done without staff help and requires cadets to be efficient and very independant but also work well as a team. It is a demanding activity but well worth it!

"I am glad to finish my Silver. Its a great sence of achievement and i look forward to completing my Gold next year" as said by Cadet Corporal Sarah Allen.

The Bronze team consisted fo 4 cadets who only joined the Squadron last September.

"They have come a long way since they joined. They have learnt the great skill of navigation and to see them navigate hilly terrains and look after themselves for two days at the age of 14 is great!" as said by Sgt Booty, Unit Commander.

The Squadron is looking at more expeditions in the Summer with a possible trip to the Highlands of Scotland where greater navigation and physical skills will be needed..
