The UK Secretary of State for Defence, Rt Hon Bob Ainsworth MP, visited 282 Squadron as part of his Olympic Village tour.

282 Squadron is one of few Uniformed Youth Organisations that are in close proximity to the Olympic Village, and for this sole reason, Rt Hon Bob Ainsworth MP decided to visit us to see exactly what the Air Cadets is all about.

The Squadron HQ is located in a unique Tri-Service building, sharing with both the Sea and Army Cadets. This made the visit even more appropriate, being the only Tri-Service Cadet building in the UK and based in the 2012 Olympic area.

Each unit put on a display to demonstrate to the Secretary of State for Defence the various activities the cadets undertake. The Squadron displayed various Athletic competitions. The unit does well each year at the inter-Squadron Athletics competition, with many cadets going on to represent at National levels.

A display of Drill was also put on by the cadets, to which the guest was very impressed by.

After a quick tour of the Army and Sea Cadets, the Secretary of State for Defence joined the staff and cadets for light refreshments before departing the Squadron to continue his tour.

"It was a great honour to have Rt Hon Bob Ainsworth MP visit our Squadron, its not every day the Secretary of State for Defence visits your unit!" as said by Cadet Usman Sarem.
